How many of you use a formal living room? I had one in our house in Colorado and we ended up converting it to a painting studio for me. Since we have converted it back to a formal living room to have listed on the market I have enjoyed looking at it and have used it some. With our new Victorian there is a She-Shack out back which will be my painting studio. I am excited to use our formal living room. We might even use it to stage pieces I have finished for open house style markets…
While our style definitely lends itself to farmhouse I am excited to decorate our formal living room in more of a Victorian style. And you may just find touches of farmhouse integrated in. Tell me what you think of the direction I am headed so far!
Stripes Gotta Go
While I like stripes I am not a fan of burgundy! I love red but NOT burgundy. While I know that burgundy and green were popular during various Victorian era’s it makes me think of 1980’s decor, blah! Watch the video to tell me what you think.
I am the dork that took all of the videos vertical… sorry for the narrow view.
What do you think? Do you love it? Do you hate it? What would you change about it?
I have never taken down or put up wall paper so this will be a new adventure. I really feel like this room needs wall paper though. With having so many fun rooms to decorate I want to step out of my comfort zone and go a bit glam with this space. I love damask. And I am thinking silver and gold.
Love it? Hate it?
With the wall paper bringing in the silver portion I want to bring in the gold with accents. There are already gold sconce lighting on the wall and a gold chandelier. I was looking at something like this light to add to the gold lighting.
To me silver is the cool and gold brings in the warmth.
OR this one?
OR both? I think lighting is going to be harder for me to pick! I am not a fan of a lot of the old Victorian lighting. And while I would love to stay true to vintage and era it may take me awhile to find something.
I would also like to bring in other warm accents like this vintage style rug.
We may not buy true vintage rugs as they are hard to find and can be in such poor shape. The good ones can be SO expensive.
We also have a lot of black and white old photographs of our family members and some other documents like old letters, registrations, and such that will be put in silver and gold frames to hang on the walls in here.
This is where I am really excited! I already picked up this awesome Victorian couch! I am in LOVE with fabric choices that the previous owner reupholstered it in. Complete Farmhouse meets Victorian! This is what I used for my color inspiration. The stripped ticking fabric is so farmhouse and the damask is so Victorian!
I saw it on Craigs List before we drove Cody out to start his job. The map on Craigs List looked like it was in the dead center of KS. It wasn’t! The couch was just outside of Junction City which was two hours from Kansas City, lol! I figured this out after we had already agreed to pick it up on our way back. Had I realized that it was that close we would have made arrangements to store it somewhere instead of my cousin and I hauling it the 7 hours home just for us to load it in a semi to go back out in a few weeks. Oh well, makes for a good story. And they were so nice to wrap it in plastic for us which did survive the entire trip.
Do you love it as much as I do?! And it is 6 feet long! We have the perfect sofa table that was my grandmothers that will go behind it.
And a Chair
I would like to put a chair in the room as well. The chair will have a similar style (still have to find the right one!) but it will be upholstered in a double wedding ring quilt top that was Cody’s grandmother’s who gave it to us. Here is my inspiration photo of it!
We also have a two original upholstered small chairs from my grandma that will be in the room. One will sit at a beautiful small secretary desk that was my grandmother’s and the other at an antique singer sewing machine that my dad gave my mom many years ago.
Put all of this together and here is the inspiration board.
What do you love? What would you add? Would you make any changes? We love hearing your feedback as you give us a fresh set of eyes and make us see and think of things we wouldn’t have otherwise.
Keep following us for more inspiration boards!
